West Valley Sanitation District transports your building wastewater (from your toilets, sinks, showers, etc.) through the wastewater sewer collection system to the San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility for treatment.
Stormwater runoff is water that flows into gutters and storm drains and empties into our local creeks and ultimately flows to the San Francisco Bay. Stormwater does not need to be treated. Illegal connections of stormwater from gutter down spouts and/or yard storm drains into the wastewater sewer pipes, for example, contribute to extremely high flows in the District’s pipes used for transporting your wastewater. Stormwater flows into the wastewater system, increasing the possibility of backups that could damage your building floors and furnishings.
Please immediately disconnect any pipes you are aware of or suspect of carrying stormwater to your property wastewater plumbing piping.
