Type of Government
The City of Monte Sereno is a General Law City, incorporated in 1957, operating under the City Council-City Manager form of local government. This type of government combines the political leadership of an elected City Council with the strong professional experience of an appointed local government administrator (City Manager). The City Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administrative operation of the City including preparation of the budget, delivery of services, hiring of personnel, and implementation of capital projects.
City Council elections are held the 1st Tuesday of November in even numbered years. The election is nonpartisan and the Councilmembers are elected at large to serve the entire community rather than by district. The Councilmembers are elected to serve 4-year terms.
The City Council and City Commissions regularly meet as follows:
- City Council: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm
- Site and Architectural Commission: 1st Wednesday of every month at 7:00 pm
- Better Streets Commission: 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm
- Youth Commission: 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm
