Upcoming Highway 9 Improvements

The Highway 9 Improvements Project is a multi-jurisdiction effort to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety.  The project area consists of approximately a 4.4 mile long stretch of Highway 9 through Saratoga, Monte Sereno and Los Gatos.

The upcoming phase of the improvements (Phase 4) consists of pedestrian improvements along Highway 9 extending from approximately Fruitvale Avenue to El Camino Grande in Saratoga and from Daves Avenue to Greenwood Road in Monte Sereno (approximately .20 miles).

The improvements within the City of Monte Sereno consist of installing asphalt walkways, short retaining walls, driveway modifications, drainage modifications and a radar speed sign on the north side of Highway 9.  In addition, a lighted crosswalk will be installed at Greenwood Road.

Construction is scheduled to start 2/21/17 (weather permitting) and be completed by the end of summer 2017. Work hours will be from 7:30 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. The majority of the construction work will take place within the bike lane and will not require lane closures.

The installation of a lighted crosswalk at Greenwood Road, will require temporary lane closures along Highway 9 and is currently scheduled for early May 2017.  In an attempt to minimize the impact of the construction, any work requiring lane closures along Highway 9 will be conducted from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday.   In addition, there will be advance notification signs posted on Highway 9 prior to any lane closures.

Upon completion of this phase, there will be improved bicycle lanes on both sides of Highway 9 and continuous pedestrian access along the Highway 9 corridor, with a new pedestrian crossing at Greenwood Road.
